XView, the easy-to-use X toolkit

XView is an easy-to-use X toolkit, but it can be hard to get started. In a brief introduction, we explain the elements of The X Window System and show you how to use the OPEN LOOK Window Manager, the Properties editor, and two common terminal emulators (OPEN LOOK's cmdtool/shelltool and the standard X xterm).

Then we spend most of the day showing C/C++ programmers how to develop applications using the XView toolkit.

Please contact us for a more detailed outline if you are interested.

Who Should Attend?

This course is aimed at practicing software developers who already have a working knowledge of C/C++ programming in the UNIX environment. Attendees should have a minimal working knowledge of a GUI-based windowing environment such as the X Window system, the Macintosh, or Microsoft Windows. Students who know C/C++ and have developed in another window system such as MS-Windows can also profit from this course.

Workshops

This presentation can be delivered in lecture-only format (1 day) or, if you have a training facility with UNIX workstations, in a lecture plus hands-on format (2 days).

Handout

Every attendee receives a copy of our OPEN LOOK and XView CD-ROM, which includes three textbooks, the complete XView toolkit, the complete X Window System source code, and dozens of sample XView programs.
